In Update number 7 we mentioned some points of interest related to electronic security systems. In this issue we will pay attention to access control systems.
Access control systems
There are noticeable differences in access control systems. Often end users know little about the possibilities or difficulties of these systems. There are however many aspects users should take into account. The first thing they should focus on is the way the system is organised. For example, in our line of business we often examine operations and error messages registered by the access control system. These data are printed on the listings of a proper access registration system. Much attention must be paid to authorizations, timetables and different user groups when the system is installed. If these aspects do not get the attention they deserve, the access control system is really nothing more than an advanced gateway to which everyone has the key.
Apart from organising the system, it is also essential to consider more technical matters such as the way the doors are bolted. On our visits to companies we increasingly encounter access control systems connected to doors with electronic locks. In these cases we often find that the locks lack additional elements making them less secure in terms of safety. Some are easy to open by means of a plastic card or a sharp object. Front doors are no exception. Furthermore we want to add that bolting an electronic lock is o little to no use to prevent break-ins.
