Laptops in demand
A recent article of the Verbond van Verzekeraars (Union of Insurers) mentions that the loss ration in electronic insurances has increased from 35% in 1999 to 47.5% in 2000 and reached 65% in 2001.
The article reveals that stolen laptops account for most of the loss. For example, many laptops are stolen out of salesman’s cars. According to information of a car glass company with many branches in the Netherlands, laptops got stolen out of 10 percent of the cars that were brought in with smashed windows. All of this is of course quite distressing for the insurers.
You pay a premium (and probably an even higher one very soon) but you are still at risk! But what if the above happens to you or one of your employees? Do you know what (confidential) information will literally end up on the street? This is a risk that cannot be covered by the insurer, so you will have to draw up and implement the guidelines yourself.
