In the leading role:
Dennis Utermark, Consultant, aged 33
On 15 July Dennis Utermark joined the team of Hoffmann Strategic Risk Management. Dennis was trained to become an IT auditor at the Open University in Amsterdam. As an IT auditor he is specialised in securing and controlling information in computer environments.
From 1995 until 2001, Dennis worked as an IT auditor at Ernst & Young Accountants. He conducted audits for clients in several industries. In 2000 he was appointed manager and supervised junior IT auditors and trainees.
According to Dennis: "One of the best aspects of being an IT auditor is that you can tell your clients about the importance of information security and how to give shape to this security. Just imagine that you would have to doubt the correctness of each slip, or worse, that unauthorised persons gain an insight into the financial state of affairs of your company through the Internet."
Teaching is one of Dennis’ strong points. He acquired experience teaching about software applications, IT audit and administrative organisation as a trainer at Ernst & Young and as a teacher at the College of Advanced Education in Utrecht. This year he will also start teaching a postgraduate course at the Free University of Amsterdam.
Dennis: "A very important aspect of information security, which people tend to forget, is the availability of IT systems. Naturally companies do not want that the entire administration is lost in a fire. Neither they want the database of clients to be unavailable. Just imagine what will happen if you don’t know who to send the bill."
In 2001 Dennis switched to Fortis Bank in Amsterdam. His work there consisted in securing and controlling Internet applications and applications for the stock market.
A year and a half later he came to the conclusion that he missed the relation with clients and the advisory role he used to have as a consultant. Therefore, this summer he applied for the job of consultant at Hoffmann Strategic Risk Management. We are convinced that Dennis’ knowledge and experience will contribute to improve our services.
