Hacking and digital sabotage
In cases involving ICT security against hacking, it is important to always remain alert. The system administrator of one of our clients discovered that one of the organisation’s servers had been hacked into. He took several measures that he thought appropriate at the time and was sure he had locked out the hacker. After some time, however, he was not so sure any more and the company decided to call in Hoffmann.
Our employees subjected the client’s automated environment to a thorough investigation. They revealed that the client’s server was under the complete control of hackers through the internet (including all administrator rights). The hackers could do anything they wanted on the system: send invoices, update the financial system and view and modify emails and other confidential documents, and so on. Based on our findings, our client reported the crime to the police. Then, by taking appropriate measures and issuing instructions to the personnel, the organisation’s ICT security and security awareness ─ and therefore its defences ─ were raised to an acceptable level.
